Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, involves the removal of unwanted fat through a vacuum apparatus to reduce fat bulges or pockets. By removing fat with suction through small incisions, the procedure helps to sculpt and shape the body. Common sites for  liposuction include the torso, abdomen, waist, flanks, thighs, arms, chin, neck.

This is a surgical procedure that can require general, deep, monitored sedation or local (tumescent) anesthesia and should be performed in an accredited surgical facility. Typically, the treated area is infused with fluid to facilitate fat removal, and the actual surgical time can vary based on the area(s) treated.
