What is Fat Transfer to the Face?

Fat transfer to the face, commonly referred to as a facial fat transfer or fat grafting, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses liposuction to remove fat from a donor area and transfer it to strategic areas in the face. The goal of the procedure is to rebuild lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.

Since the procedure uses the patient’s own fat rather than synthetic fillers, the results are more natural-looking and seamlessly blend in with the surrounding facial features. Fat transfer to the face typically treats hollowness in the cheeks, under-eye areas, and temples.

The donor areas used in the procedure are typically those with stubborn, excess adipose tissue, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, flanks, or lower back.

AlloClae is an advanced, non‑invasive injectable treatment that uses donor‑derived fat to restore youthful volume and vitality. Unlike conventional fat transfer, alloClae does not require anesthesia, incisions, liposuction, downtime, or scarring. It is a minimally invasive contouring option, ideal for our busy, active patients in New York. During your session, the injected compound seamlessly integrates with your tissues, resulting in natural-looking, long-lasting fullness.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Fat Transfer to Face?

What to Expect on the Day of Fat Transfer to Face Surgery

On the day of your facial fat transfer, you will check in to our office in Manhattan, Long Island, or Massapequa, New York, and review your treatment plan again with Dr. Baldenhofer.

To begin your procedure, you’ll be given local anesthesia, so you will be awake but unable to feel pain from the incisions or liposuction. After the anesthesia is administered, Dr. Baldenhofer will make small, strategic incisions in the donor areas discussed during the consultation. The fat is processed and purified before it is ready to be transferred to the face.

When it is finished being prepared, small amounts of the purified fat are carefully injected into the targeted areas of the face using a small, blunt-tip cannula to refine the facial features.

Depending on the extent of the surgery, the procedure can take several hours, but you will be able to return home the same day.

Combining My Fat Transfer to Face with Other Procedures

Many of Dr. Baldenhofer’s patients in Manhattan, Long Island, and Massapequa, New York, combine their fat transfer to the face with additional procedures to further address several signs of aging.

A facelift addresses signs of aging in the mid- and lower-face areas, such as sagging skin, wrinkles, and jowling, and provides a more lifted appearance. It works well with fat transfer to the face because it restores structure and volume.

Your Guide to Post-Fat Transfer to Face Care

A facial fat transfer involves some swelling and bruising in the initial week of recovery, which can cause some discomfort but is manageable with prescribed pain medication.

Rest and sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated to avoid putting pressure on your face, as this can cause asymmetry. Drink plenty of fluids to make sure you’re hydrated, which will help your body heal faster.

You may resume light to moderate exercise within a few days to a week, but you should wait to resume more intense exercise for at least a couple of weeks.

Your results will slowly become more apparent as the swelling and bruising improve, so it’s important to be patient.

How Much Does a Fat Transfer to the Face Cost in New York?

The cost of a fat transfer to the face in Manhattan, Long Island, and Massapequa, New York, varies by patient, depending on the amount of fat harvested, the complexity of the procedure, the amount of anesthesia used, and the provider’s experience.

You will receive a quote estimate during your consultation with Dr. Baldenhofer.
