  4. Discuss the procedure in depth and go over expectations
  5. Receive a thorough examination of your lips
  6. Receive a treatment plan covering the cost, additional procedures combined, and pre-operative and post-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Lift Surgery

Your lip lift can take place at any of our surgical facilities located in Manhattan, Long Island, or Massapequa, New York. When you arrive, you’ll go over your surgical plan with Dr. Baldenhofer and discuss any remaining questions.

Before the surgery begins, you’ll be given local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure. To begin the surgery, Dr. Baldenhofer will make a precise, discreet incision along the base of the nostrils. He will then carefully remove a small section of the skin and elevate the upper lip to create a defined, “pouty” appearance. Finally, Dr. Baldenhofer will close the incision(s) with fine sutures.

The entire procedure typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour. You can go home the same day to begin recovering.

Immediately after your lip lift, you will experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort for the first 3-7 days. To minimize discomfort, Dr. Baldenhofer will prescribe pain medication and recommend dosages; take them as directed.

After about 5-7 days following your lip lift, you can return to normal activities and exercise. This waiting period ensures you don’t strain your lips or sweat, which can lead to infection as the incisions heal.

You may be given specialized lip ointments and ice packs to help with the swelling. Make sure to take plenty of rest and drink water to help your body recover. The results are gradual, so patience is essential to achieving optimal results.
